Groundbreaking Canadian AR Poetry Experience ‘Fiery Sparks of Light’ to Debut at Frankfurt Book Fair #2

Holographic storytelling experience features poems and performances by celebrated Canadian women poets including Margaret Atwood

TORONTO – October 14, 2021 – An intimate and imaginative augmented reality (AR) poetry experience spotlighting Canadian women poets will debut at the internationally acclaimed Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) from October 20 to 24, 2021 in Frankfurt, Germany. Fiery Sparks of Light is an immersive and sensory celebration of poetry and the important contributions women poets have made to Canada’s international literary reputation. The production reimagines a collection of poems by four renowned Canadian women poets – Margaret Atwood, Nicole Brossard, Canisia Lubrin and Sarah Tolmie – as an augmented reality experience featuring holographic performances.

Music for the Dead and Resurrected by Valzhyna Mort and The Dyzgraphxst by Canisia Lubrin Win the 2021 Griffin Poetry Prize

TORONTO – Wednesday, June 23, 2021Music for the Dead and Resurrected by Valzhyna Mort, (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) and The Dyzgraphxst by Canisia Lubrin (McClelland & Stewart) are the International and Canadian winners of the 2021 Griffin Poetry Prize, each receiving C$65,000 in prize money. The other finalists will be awarded $10,000 each.

The Griffin Poetry Prize Announces the 2020 International and Canadian Shortlist

TORONTO – April 7, 2020 – Scott Griffin, on behalf of the trustees of The Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry, is pleased to announce the International and Canadian shortlist for this year’s prize. Judges Paula Meehan (Ireland), Kei Miller (Jamaica/UK), and Hoa Nguyen (Canada) each read 572 books of poetry, from 14 countries, including 37 translations.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve and The Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry, following official guidance from the federal Public Health Agency of Canada, and Toronto Public Health, has decided to cancel the 2020 Shortlist Readings scheduled to take place on Monday, June 8, and the Awards Evening dinner on Tuesday, June 9.

The Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry announces Nicole Brossard as its 2019 Lifetime Recognition Award Recipient

TORONTO – Wednesday, April 24, 2019 – French Canadian poet, essayist, and novelist Nicole Brossard will be honoured with The Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry’s Lifetime Recognition Award at the 2019 Griffin Poetry Prize Shortlist Readings on June 5, 2019. Nicole will be attending the events in Toronto and will read briefly on June 5, and at the Griffin Poetry Prize Awards Evening on June 6, 2019. As part of the award, Brossard will receive $20,000 (Cdn).
