Avery will launch his 4th book, what men do with their mouths.

Poetry 150 submission deadline

Title: Poetry 150 submission deadline

Date: August 15, 2017

Location: Canada
Description: Calgary Spoken Word Society, Single Onion Poetry Society and Free Fall Magazine are having a poetry contest for Canada’s 150. The poem should be no more than 600 lines and no longer than a five-minute reading time. All the poems must deal with Canada and our 150th birthday. Poems can reference the people, the history, the land or all three, but should stay as close to topic as possible.

The poems will be curated by a group of five poets: Weyman Chan, Micheline Maylor, Kirk Miles, Julian Smith, and Sheri-D Wilson. The top five poems will be published in Free Fall Magazine and the poets will perform their work.

Back Roads Reading with Charles Simic

Title: Back Roads Reading with Charles Simic

Description: The intent of the Back Roads Reading series is to bring regional and national writers and poets to audiences in the Northeast Kingdom and Eastern Townships in Vermont, so people have the chance to hear authors read their work and to meet them personally. After each reading everyone is invited to a reception and book signing at the Samuel Read Hall House to share refreshments and conversation with the writers.

Live readings provide a unique experience that allows for a greater connection between author and audience. The authors represent a variety of genres including: playwrights, children’s authors, poets, spoken word, and non-fiction.
