Title: 2017 Fall Poetry Colloquium
Date: September 28, 2017
Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Description: What poems thrill us as readers, and why? How do we find a poem’s form? What ideals are we striving for in our own writing? These are the sorts of practical and philosophical questions we’ll ask in this eight-week colloquium for writers wanting to explore topics in poetry as a means of developing their own work. The colloquium is open to those who have been writing poetry for at least two years and/or have had work published in at least two literary journals.
Readings, including essays, interviews and poems by well known and emerging writers in English and in translation will be distributed a week ahead as springboards into the following week’s discussion. Each week, time will also be devoted to a roundtable in which participants present poetry-related questions or ideas they’re grappling with. Each session will end with a writing prompt to be tackled during the week. Written feedback on five pages of poetry by each participant is included in the fee.
