The Work of Charles Simic
Poet and Poetry Center docent George Subiti leads a Shop Talk on the work of Charles Simic. Shop Talks take a “round table” approach to scholarly investigation of poetic works, resulting in a collegial atmosphere. Each Shop Talk begins with a mini-lecture on the featured author, followed by a conversation about the author and the work. A study packet containing biographical information, excerpts, and criticism is made available for each event; no advance knowledge of the poet or works discussed…

Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop
The tradition of ekphrastic poetry is a long, rich, and varied one, with poets from Ovid to Frank O’Hara taking delight in the mirroring (or reconstructing or deconstructing) a visual image via the use of a written text. In this three-hour workshop, participants will initially read and discuss a selection of compelling ekphrastic poems that instructor Maurya Simon will distribute and post digitally.
