Title: 2-Day Poem Contest

Description: This annual contest challenges you to write an original poem in 48 hours — with only one catch. The final poem must include ten words that CV2 will provide. These words are released at midnight CDT on Friday April 7th, 2017, leaving you 48 hours to use each of them at least once in an original poetry composition. Prizes include cash, publication, and a copy of the issue containing the winners, not to mention a whole weekend of wordy entertainment.

Title: George Elliott Clarke at Ore Samples Writers Series

Location: Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada
Description: Founded in 2016, Ore Samples is a Canadian writers series curated and managed by a volunteer director. An excellent volunteer advisory board is in place. All funding and support received by Ore Samples go to the writers and performers featured in the series.

Ore welcomes Parliamentary Poet Laureate George Elliott Clarke for a public reading and reception at the Flin Flon Public Library on July 20, 2017.

Description: Running since May 9, 1980, the Tree Reading Series (Tree) is one of Canada’s longest-running literary events and an essential part of Ottawa’s vibrant literary community. Tree is a non-profit organization that supports established and emerging writers from Ottawa and across Canada by offering a supportive public venue for writers to present their own work and to benefit from exposure to the work of other writers. In providing this service, Tree hopes to inspire and sustain the development of the literary community in Ottawa and to promote Ottawa as an important community for Canadian literary arts.

The evening features readings by John Nyman and Shoshanna Wingate, and also includes an open mic.

Title: Luath Poets – with Magi Gibson, Hugh McMillan and Christie Williamson

Description: Three poets from the length of Scotland will read poems in English, Shetlandic and Scots. Hugh McMillan is from Galloway, Christie Williamson is from Shetland, though he now lives in Glasgow, as does Magi Gibson, who will launch her new book Washing Hugh MacDiarmid’s Socks.
